Black Arts Retreat was founded in 2013 with the simple, yet the profound mission of uniting lovers and practitioners of the African Diasporic Cultural Arts. Since that time, we have hosted 6 Black Arts Retreats in the Northeast United States and 4 international retreats in Germany, Dominica, Brazil, and Haiti. In response to demand from our participants, Black Arts Retreat has expanded our programming beyond retreats to include special events, workshops, and affinity groups. Visit us on instagram @blackartsretreat for most updated programs.
This independently organized retreat series is a haven for creators of all kinds, including those who don’t consider themselves to be artists (yet). Through the years we have brought together a dynamic international tribe to commune in nature, immerse in creativity and connect to each other across all perceived boundaries.
We hike, meditate, cook and eat together amid creative workshops that span a range of mediums and Afro-Diasporic cultural origin. While our programming is ever morphing to respond to the needs of our communities, year after year, location after location, the Black Arts Retreat synergy remains the same: we come in as strangers and leave as intimate family members.
Deep listening, generosity and mutual care are the tenets of the Black Arts Retreat as we move through various spaces of art and wellness work. We welcome you to join our community of explorers and lovers as we expand in the tradition of radical liberation.
